I believe that: xset s off is what your looking for. Of course, different DEs will want you to do it differently. And some players support turning off the screen saver themselves. Incidentally, I've been running my desktop and laptop without pulse for several months (fvwm blackbox windowmmaker depending on what I feel like), no problems (though I must confess that I'm not running debian (PATA devices, an SATA MotherB, and systemd don't get along) :) . I find the experience RAM & disk freeing. David
