Yes - at least that's my understanding from the geda web-site. It says: gaf(1) is a multipurpose command line utility implementing setting up the above programs, exporting schematics and symbols into various formats, and shell for command line processing of their data. I was able to make this work for a while using a utility that simulated the X environment - but this stopped working nearly a year ago, and I haven't had the time to see if I could restore it somehow.
