Debian would fork Systemd and then fix it, or else switch to Upstart or something as a default. And don't forget that Systemd is only the *default*. The best thing to do at this point is to express strong interest in and support for alternatives. File bugs and raise a stink whenever you find a package that gratuitously requires Systemd.
