It is a wonder that GNOME upstream continues on its present course with such insightful mastery of the technical complexities available to them. Yet they do: https://lists.debian.org/20140720161342.ga20...@copernicus.demon.co.uk Wasn't it Marie Antoinette (a developer of the Yesterday Linux distribution) who said "Let them eat consolekit"? Or something like that. The one incontrovertible, undeniable fact is that systemd will provide the default PID 1 in Jessie. If people don't want the default init system they sort it out for themselves by doing something about it, not by vociferously advocating a return to the good old days when cake and bread were equally plentiful and available to the the masses. -- Systemd is the worst form of init system, except for all those others that have been tried from time to time.
