When I upgraded apache2 it came with new modules and my old one, which no longer matched the version of apache2, was rejected and the web server refused to start, so the update didn't finish.
The solution: abort the update, compile the module against the updated -dev files and re-install. The other alternative would be to surf the web or mono forums for a matching problem.
