I have had to do exactly what is under discussion. My bi-lingual granddaughter now has a Mac (running Mac OSX) laptop that is entirely in Japanese. When I was trouble-shooting for her, I gave her the commands and she translated the replies for me. Both her Japanese and her English are excellent - at educated native speaker standard. But how I wish that I had known about LANGUAGE = C . As it was, I had to do tiny steps at a time, because only that way could I keep track of where we were, and what the computer was trying to say to me.
