Thank you,

I wasn't aware about this, resp. I didn't had in mind, that at least
somebody might lock packages. I'm not sure if Debian and Ubuntu do
inform about updates for locked packages.

Arch does inform the user

[root@archlinux rocketmouse]# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core is up to date
 extra is up to date
 community is up to date
 multilib is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: ardour: ignoring package upgrade (2.8.16-1 => 3.1-1)
warning: virtualbox: ignoring package upgrade (4.2.12-2 => 4.2.12-3)
warning: virtualbox-host-dkms: ignoring package upgrade (4.2.12-2 => 4.2.12-3)
 there is nothing to do

Regards,
Ralf
