I'm guessing that the nvidia driver can ONLY work with an xorg.conf.  It's just 
not set up to work any other way.  Everything I've read indicates this.  But I 
was curious, and thought I'd ask anyway.

The parameter passing is an interesting idea.  Something I only remotely 
considered.
