From my experience - I am only running it for myself from KMail -, it's quite a speedup. The SpamAssassin system is written in Perl and loading the interpreter can take half a second or more *per message* (which took about five minutes when checking mail in the morning), while with spamc, there's hardly a difference between downloading the mails unfiltered and getting them filtered. Overall, I'd estimate the speedup at about a factor of five or more.
