apt-build requires src entries in /etc/apt/sources.list NOTE: in my experience you will rarely see any noticable improvements in performance using apt-build - the standard Debian package builds are pretty tight - it's only when you need very specialised builds (eg statically linked) that you'll find it particularly useful.
