than on LMDE system create shell script: ##### #!/bin/bash while read line do aptitude search $line done < "ubuntu_packages" > lmde_packages ##### then with diff, compare these two files - ubuntu_packages and lmde_packages... after all that you'll know what packages have different names, are incompatible etc. chances are (that depends on your current ubuntu installation) that there will be close to zero incompatibilities package naming mismatches... hope that helps.
