I still don't have that much data that costs so much to invest the time
needed for full daily backup.

There are pretty good howto's about backup plans. The point here is backup
of notebook data. Usually it's enough to make a daily diff (find -mtime) in
case you have some precious data (incremental backup). This is the cheapest
solution.
