FYI, for anyone looking at this in the future, eeebuntu is a derivative of
ubuntu designed specifically for the eee pc line.  I installed via usb flash
drive in 20 mins using the .iso and unetbootin, with not one single tweak
needed.  ~1.7 GB installation footprint.  Amazing.
