Hello Wolodja! Thanks a lot! This hint helped a lot, now the graphics accelereation seems to work fine. At least I get now about 770 fps with glxgears, so the improvement is very much noticeable. (And I noticed that the radeon driver does perform even better than the radeonhd driver; this is the driver which the xserver chooses by default if one leaves it out from the xorg.conf file.)
