I had that problem before and fixed it by installing 'firmware-linux', which contains (among others) the firmwares for the following ATI cards: * Radeon R100-family CP microcode, version unknown Radeon R200-family CP * microcode, version unknown Radeon R300-family CP microcode, version unknown * Radeon R400-family CP microcode, version unknown Radeon R500-family CP * microcode, version unknown Radeon RS690 CP microcode, version unknown I really wonder why this package is not a dependency of the xserver-xorg-radeon{,hd} packages. If the installation of that package solved that problem for you I will file a bug against the xserver-xorg-video-* packages that "depend" on it. with kind regards Wolodja Wentland
