FWIW, I did: 1) # dpkg --force-overwrite -i var/cache/apt/archives/libsane-extras_1.0.19.11_i386.deb 2) # dpkg --force-overwrite -i iscan_2.10.0-2_i386.deb I admit that this solution is about just as ugly as Rainer's.
