I am going to play with the latest 2.6.26 kernel and change those
uvesafb 'm's to 'y's I think. Although the object was to have a Debian
kernel with framebuffers just from installs.
Note that this may be problematic, see bug #493185[1] for details.

At Dave's suggestion I wrote to Evgeni Golov, the v86d maintainer, who
is super responsive. Last try he had me rebuild the v86d package w/o a
patch he had put in it.
Turned out not to help, still got:
...
Aug 15 16:03:46 debian kernel: [ 1.108612] uvesafb: Getting VBE info
block failed (eax=0x4f00, err=-3)
Aug 15 16:03:46 debian kernel: [ 1.108678] uvesafb: vbe_init() failed
with -22
Aug 15 16:03:46 debian kernel: [ 1.108738] uvesafb: probe of
uvesafb.0 failed with error -22
...
at boot and no framebuffers.
Stay tuned.
