Hi, I am running Debian on a Macbook. I used the Etch DVDs for install, and I followed the instructions on the wiki entry http://wiki.debian.org/MacBook
I think that made most things work for me, including wireless, touchpad and sound. Microphone worked after an alsa upgrade. Everything runs very smoothly(you can configure the keyboard setup in your xorg.conf to match your preferences), and I think the power settings can be set using ACPI as well (not too sure about battery performance enhancement etc.).
