Not subscribed. The volume is overwhelming.
I read the Web based archive.

If only that would work! This is an old problem,
still not fully solved. See for example,
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2007/01/msg02948.html
. As I am aware, the threading mechanism remains
undocumented. It can be understood only by
dissecting source code.
Opening
http://carnot.pathology.ubc.ca/Debian.html
and scrolling to the heading
"Invoking Icedove from Iceweasel"
reveals a short explanation of my attempt to
make a reply work. It fails to start Icedove.
It appears to work if Icedove is already running.
Last weekend I attempted a reply to Andrei's
message; I have not found the reply on the list.
Perhaps there is a time limit for replying.
If anyone can recognize why the script fails to
start Icedove and suggest a correction, a
response is welcome.
Thanks, ... Peter E.
I created this reply from the web archive.
That script seems too complicated. I created a much simpler script
similar to this:
#!/bin/sh
icedove "$1"
That seems to get both the subject and message threading right. :-)
However, I did have to do copy and paste to get the context back.
I selected the text from the web page in Firefox, and I went to the
Thunderbird window and did Control-Shift-V to paste the text in quoted form.
This is not my usual way to reply to debian-user messages, but I did
learn something new today.
