Not subscribed. The volume is overwhelming.
I read the Web based archive.
Normal replying is difficult through the web based archive. You don't
need to be subscribed to send messages to the list; however, due to spam
filtering, you might need to join the whitelist.

If only that would work! This is an old problem,
still not fully solved. See for example,
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2007/01/msg02948.html
. As I am aware, the threading mechanism remains
undocumented. It can be understood only by
dissecting source code.
Use the exact same subject when you reply. That should help most people
group your messages properly. You could also use a Yahoo mail account;
that will be accessible from both home and work.
Opening
http://carnot.pathology.ubc.ca/Debian.html
and scrolling to the heading
"Invoking Icedove from Iceweasel"
reveals a short explanation of my attempt to
make a reply work. It fails to start Icedove.
It appears to work if Icedove is already running.
Last weekend I attempted a reply to Andrei's
message; I have not found the reply on the list.
Perhaps there is a time limit for replying.
If anyone can recognize why the script fails to
start Icedove and suggest a correction, a
response is welcome.
Thanks, ... Peter E.

The script might not be necessary; I know that thunderbird pops up when
I click a mailto: link in Firefox 2.0 (on Sarge), but I'm about to test
Iceweasel/Icedove on Etch.
BTW, I used the gnome-control-center to configure Thunderbird as my
preferred mail application.
