THE problem http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/03/msg00604.html caused by my stupidness http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/03/msg00501.html
seems to be that the configurations that any Debian tool expects are confusingly out of order or missing in a way that cannot be foreseen (since each persons potential creativity as regards stupidity is hard to forecast). Now I hope that (1) either it should be possible to enough correct some key file so, at least, enough malconfigured packages (in the best case only xserver-xorg) could be purged by regular means and then reinstalled. Then perhaps the pending (probably less significant) stuff that is waiting for installation/configuration would finish with some minor work remaining to adjust things by reinstallation (or, by that time, ordinary upgrading). Or, (2) grab deeper into the system and by some means remove, or rather purge, a bigger batch of packages (to be later reinstalled), xserver-xorg and much more, in order to clean up the anomalies that is included in that section of the system. But are there any such means? Are there any Debian database manipulation tools that could be used to fake something or arrange system behaviour in a way that would make a descent purging possible?
