I switched to Debian some months ago, and I think I understand the feeling. All 
those other distros you need 3-5 CD's ... the big difference to the other 
distros I tried, is the package system. The one great thing about it is that 
you can download only a very small part, just enough to start your install and 
the rest during the install. And it Really Works. I prefer to download the 
first CD from the CD-set, but only because I don't want to waste a whole CD for 
the netinst .iso (yes, you might call me cheap :-) ). But IMHO it's a waste of 
bandwith to download more. Maybe later, when you are more confident in Debian...
