That's not what I need: I need shortcuts to applications (and possibly documents) _on the desktop_ - not accessed via some menu one has to pop up before. Myself, I have no problem with that (the configurability and don't-get-in-my-way-with-anything is why I use Enlightenment), but this is for the SO, where I want to make the transition from Windos/Gnome as easy as possible. So far, Rox looks the most promising, so I'll try and figure out what packages I need for that.
