IIRC, synaptic will ask for the root password automatically. However, for other apps in general, look at something like xsu, gksu or gnome-sudo. Basically, you run one of those and pass the command you want to run with root privilege as a parameter and then it will prompt you for the password and run it. -Roberto -- Roberto C.
