As root, I run 'alsaconfig' and things seem to go well until the end when I
get the following error message:
Loading driver:
Starting ALSA sound driver (version 0.9.0rc1): (card-via686a)
Setting the PCM volume to 100% and the Master output volume to 50%
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory
Could not initialize the mixer, the card was probably
not detected correctly.
I finally got mine working a couple of days ago after months of trying.
It's integrated on an Epox 8KHA+ board. Here's what I did.
1) dselect/installed kernel-source-2.4.18
2) Compiled a kernel, including sound support as a module (but not any
other sound stuff)
3) dselect/installed alsa-source
4) unzipped/untarred the /usr/src/alsa-source
5) followed the 7 "Quick Step"s in /usr/src/modules/alsa-drivers/INSTALL
6) Sound now works.
