Whoops - I editted the line saying what package those files are in. Install doc-linux-text (or alternately, if you want pseudo-info format files readable with a browser and usable via dwww, you can install doc-linux-html.) It definitely reads like you at least don't have the AWE synth module (which handles the MIDI side) installed, and from what I read in your replies to others, I get the impression that you don't have the main part (for simple audio) working either. I'd thought you had that working when you said "My sound card works." Those HOWTOs are also available on http://www.tldp.org, but I've always preferred having the package on my system and getting the updates as they arise, so that I can see what wisdom I can turn to. -- Mark L.
