Hi I have installed the PPTP-linux package and am not sure how to configure it from there. I have a Alcatel Apeed Touch Pro ADSL router which you can use PPTP to connect to the internet though it, it works fine with windows, but i would like to use it with debian. How do i configure the PPTP-linux package? Is it possible to have it so that if the connection is dropped it will will connect?
You may want to have a look at the following two pages. They describe setting up pptp with the Speed Touch Home on the dutch MxStream network, but may still apply to your case.
One (http://www.maniac.nl/adsl.html) describes the use of the `standard' pptp-linux package, and uses a separate cron job to periodically check the connection. This is similar to the setup I used to have, back when I used another linux distro, but I couldn't get it to work on Debian, which may be entirely my own fault.
The other (http://www.xs4all.nl/~metamorf/adsl-debian-howto/) uses an adapted version of the pptp-linux package, which allows pppd to call pptp, instead of the other way around. This means you only have to set the PERSIST option in /etc/ppp/peers/provider, to get pppd to reconnect. I like this a lot, but it does mean you have to compile this special version of pptp.
