If it's ATAPI or EIDE or something that you plug in just like a hard drive,
then you don't need to worry about modules - support is built in.

PCMIA is for laptops.

See above - you probably don't need to configure anything... During boot up
you can stop the booting process by pressing "Scroll Lock" [on i386 at least].
You can then move up the boot log with Right Shift + Page Up.

You CD drive should be listed under one of the IDE drives.. :)
