note also that i said "many peoples' opinion". i actually agree with
you. 2.4 is stable enough if you compile it yourself with the bare
essentials, disabled kmod (you should for productive systems anyway),
and if you protect it with a proper iptables setup.

and speaking of CheckPoint Firewall-1, you guys know about
www.fwbuilder.org, right? have a look, those of you who know CP's GUI
