before even attempting to compile the debian drivers, you need to
be sure you have XFree86 v4 installed/working on your system. Debian
2.2 does not include XFree86 v4. You may be able to find a 3rd party
source that has .debs, there used to be one a couple years ago but I
couldn't find it last I checked.

test the card with the 'nv' driver once X is configured, THEN try
to compile the nvidia drivers.

chances are you probably have to(its best to anyways) upgrade to
woody before attempting to use the nvidia card w/nvidia's drivers.

and I think you have the linux kernel v2.2.19, not gcc. The oldest
gcc I remember is 2.7.x and that was back in 1996-97.
