Wasn't very careful when i posted the esd problem - didn't enable the esound plugins in xmms and realplay. just great... now i got that fixed by enabling them. sorry for the silly post...
anyway, are there any more packages that are compatible with esd? afaik, there are some programs that don't work with esd. can anyone recommend other multimedia packages (vcd players, mpeg players, etc) that would work with esd? can mp3blaster work too with esd? i was hoping that mplayer, plaympeg and xtheater would support esd (how or even does it would quite be a good query before doing anything rash). i also found out that some cards don't do as well with esd (like my own aging CMI8330 ISA sound card), as I need to slow down from 1:1 to 1:4 (44KHz down to 11KHz). any recommendations too on what card is good (or is reported to support well) with esd?
