well, i changed it to boot=/dev/hda and i still get my familiar old "LI"
interesting thing - i have a couple other slave drives on the system and just to test i unplugged them and booted. LILO did start to load linux, but I got "kernel panic" - no init found. sheesh. i just can't win i guess. I'm not sure what that error is or what caused it. but since the boot floppy works fine, if the kernel is bad on the HD (which i can't see how it is, it was created earlier this evening, same time as the boot floppy kernel) is there a way for me to restore the kernel on the HD with the one from the floppy? thanks, rory ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joop Stakenborg" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Rory O'Connor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <debian-user@lists.debian.org> Sent: Friday, November 16, 2001 2:52 AM Subject: Re: booting is very difficult > On Fri, 16 Nov 2001 02:42:07 -0600 > "Rory O'Connor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > > > > Apparantly it's complaining that there is no active boot partition, but it > > states quite clearly in the lilo.conf file that boot=/dev/hda1 (and yes, i > > did re-run lilo just to be sure). > > Wrong, should be 'boot=/dev/hda'. > > > > > > > thanks, > > > > rory > > > > > > Joop > > -- > Joop Stakenborg > FOM-instituut Rijnhuizen > tel. 030-6096862 >
