Thanks for your replies... I set "PNP OS" back to "No" in the BIOS (setting it to Yes was what seemed to fix the problem last time, weird...), then I reserved IRQ's 3 and 4 for serial, 5 for my NE2K, 12 for PS/2 mouse (when I get round to fixing that one again), and booted GNU/Linux again. The RTL shifted from IRQ 12 to 11, and the NE appears to work fine on IRQ 5.
