Hey, are you actually hitting F3 to view a deb file? The correct action,
AFAIK, is to hit enter, and mc will display the virtual file system of the
deb for you. When you want to view the files *inside* the deb, you need to
press F3.
Though F3 on a deb should not give you a error message. I think it should
give you a listing of the files inside the deb or perhaps some gibberish
in an attempt to display the actual (binary) deb file, depending on your
setup.
Similar things work for rpms, tar, and tar.gz files, by the way.
Again, try going with an out of the box setup.
