hi, i fall into this pit too, and on bugs.debian.org i found the following solution: boot your kernel with init=/bin/bash remount your your rootfs rw (e.g. with /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh mount other filesystems (/etc/init.d/mountall.sh) then install the old packages with dpkg. that's the i've done it and it worked. hth, daniel -- Vulcans never bluff. -- Spock, "The Doomsday Machine", stardate 4202.1
