I still can't get to the ISP. I am
dragging this Linux box on my RV the week-end for a 3 mos trip on the
road. If I don't get it connected I will lose my contact to the net and
most importantly the Debian user-list! According to my manuals
etc., I should be able to run wvdialconf and magic I can run wvdail and its
connects. If that doesn't work then some minor editing of conf files
like host.conf, resolv.conf, and wvdail. Also there has to bee a
link between the /dev/modem and sttyS0. I have done all that - I think
correctly??? the responses I get allude to the mucking elsewhere like in
the pppconf etc. One respondent alluded to my ISP response being in
the Chat mode. Here is the ritual I go through in the MS box:
1. click on the icon to connect, result
=>
Dial-up connection
box
2. I punch the Connect box, result
=>
Dialing note and then I
get
3. Post-Dial Terminal Screen
"Welcome to
Ridgenet"
Ridgenet username: <I
enter "hammack"> and a <Enter>
Password: <password>
and <Enter>
Then another welcome with
options:
Enter owens to connect to
ownes.
Enter ppp to start a ppp
sessions
Enter slip
.....
Enter cslip
Enter
quit....
I
Respond: <PPP> and <Enter>
Then I get the garbage characters and a button to
punch [or F7] to continue.
And that connects me.
This looks like a chat session ????
thanks again guys!! John
