OK, this is freaky: I did an 'apt-get --purge remove cupsys' and then 'apt-get install cupsys'. I did make sure that the backend/lpd file was there. And after going to http://localhost:631, CUPS only offered me the 'Disk File' option and the various serial ports. Not even ipp. And yes, I am pretty sure that I am running version 1.1.4-3.
