once you have disabled portmap, please report to me whether you have xdm delays during initlevel 3 login. if yes, then you are suffering from the same problem that i have, namely that xdm/X and xfs don't communicate via ipc but insist on rpc. and if you don't have that problem, then i'd be more than interested in your XF86Config file.
