8 bpp is typically a default. You're going to set this in the 'Screen' section of your XF86Config file. 24 bpp brings out a bug in Netscape -- icons are rendered as B/W -- not greyscale, BTW, but black and white. 16 or 32 is preferred. -- Karsten M.
