Hi,

I'm interested in Debian because I understand it is a completely
free/open source linux distribution. I also have been intrigued after
reading this list about the package manager used in Debian. I think some
of the other Linux distributions are making it hard to keep a completely
free platform which I think is confusing if you are not really up on it
and I would like to avoid that confusion.

I am a Java programmer and I'm currently using the Linux x86 Java 1.2.2
from Sun/Blackdown and having pretty good luck with it. I have a couple
of questions.

1. What Java does Debian come with?

2. How is the free/gnu Java coming along? Is this kaffe or something
else with the classpath project?

3. How does the PowerPC version of Debian compare to the x86 version? Is
it a viable way to go?

Thanks in advance for any insights.
