A very few winmodems will more or less work nowadays. Of course they suck just as much under Linux as they do under Windows. But I have no idea which these are. Try www.linmodems.org. If you really do have to buy a new modem, any modem which supports DOS, or OS/2 will work, as will any external serial modem. But external modems usually cost a lot more.
