That's not quite the focus of my argument, actually. One of the great things about Linux is that it's been kept about as simple as such a complicated topic can get. It's beauty, it's maintainability, it's customizability and extensibility all come from that simplicity and adherence to standards. So, when someone wants to introduce added complexity I need to see a major benefit of doing so. I just don't see it here. The fact that text editors are a hell of a lot more common than a binary editor for a dpkg database that hasn't been written yet is an important issue, even if you'd like to dismiss it. Mike
