If it's compiled with APM support, it will always be there... (It's not available as a module.) The reason the default kernels don't include APM support is that there are a lot of not-fully-compliant BIOSes floating around. A lot of the APM functions have notes in their help text stating that Acme Model 13 systems won't like having them enabled.
