I don't know about inactive threads, but to remove old messages you can try the following: mutt -f folder-to-expire -e 'set delete;push D~r>20d<enter>q' I'm not sure how it works. Your post prompted me to find a solution. I've wanted something like this for awhile now. I'm going to try it out tonight. BTW, I got it off of the Mutt Users Mail Archive.
