Actually, I thought of concentrating on ressources that are available off-line. Probably the newbie hasn´t set up PPP yet, and constantly rebooting to This Other Annoyance is just hindering people. This document also should be kept small. Just mention: man/apropos/whatis, tab-completion, a command to grep through the howto´s (what is the best [means, easiest to remember] solution?), Alt+Fx (assume X hasn´t been set up either) so that you can do what the doc describes, urging them not to use the root account, the directories /usr/doc/ and /usr/share/doc, Havoc´s Debian tutorial (is this available as a package? if yes, tell the newbie how to install and access it) and Dales online book, etc. And as a German, I´d also add some remarks about the Netiquette, emphasizing especially the point with the full quotes and the line breaks ;-) When printed, this shouldn´t exceed more than three or four pages. (Ah yes, tell ´em about lpr. Ideally this would work out of the box.) My excuse for not taking the official maintainer role is that I´m not a native english speaker, while this document should be a masterpiece of clarity yet shortness. :-) As to your hosting offer: this should be online somewhere, in case the newbie can only print from the browser, on whatever Os this may be.
