I noticed in environ(5) and gethostbyname(5) that if the variable HOSTALIASES is set, the file it points to is used for host lookups instead of /etc/hosts. But I can't get it to work. Does this actually work in linux? I've always wanted a per-user $HOME/.hosts file.
