With the old installer I was able to choose "Laptop" at the stage where
I can choose what "type of computer" (or something) I have... the place
where it says, mail server, web server, desktop, etc.
I didn't notice that option with the new installer (I just did a fresh
install because I was toying with a Kanotix->Debian install, didn't end
up happy)
Anyway, when I chose Laptop with the old installer it finished with a
system which slept upon using either my fn-f4 (IBM thinkpad) hotkeys, or
just closing the top... but now without that option, I don't have that
functionality.
Is the functionality elsewhere in the install, is it gone now, what are
my choices?
And btw, I want APM not ACPI because it works better with the Thinkpads,
at least in my experience and according to the research I've done. Am I
out of luck by default and now left to digging through god knows how
many man pages and install guides?
Currently downloading the Ubuntu installer to give that a roll, I love
Debian, it's what goes on all my servers, and I really want it for my
laptop too, but it's looking more and more like all the little issues
I've been having with it on a laptop are going to lead me down the route
of a debian based secondary... if that's the case, can anyone recommend
a good distro of that type which works with laptops? I'm not willing to
go to a Redhat/Suse/etc. based system as I don't want to vary that much
from my servers.
Thanks for any and all answers,
Rob
