Just setting up a local version of msmtp (that is, in your home directory)
and telling mutt where "sendmail" is should get the job done.

I didn't know, BTW, that exim could use SMTP AUTH. Thanks for pointing that
out. Which version of exim are you using? exim or exim4?

I think that msmtp is indeed more suited for those with modest needs,
instead of those that need a full MTA (which, in my case, is qmail plus
some patches).
