On Woody: /usr/sbin/sendmail -> exim On Sarge: /usr/sbin/sendmail -> exim4 This happens because many programs have, in the past, expected to find sendmail on a system. The command line options for exim are (almost) the same as for sendmail, at least insofar as they are required for sending out a message in the manner you have been trying to do. Obviously, setting your option above doesn't *hurt*; I am surprised it is necessary, however: I have mutt running and I have not specified anything in the 'sendmail' variable in my ~/.muttrc - and it gets passed through to Exim without any problem (presumably as a result of the symlink mentioned above). Do you have that symlink?
