This was a mistake. It shouldn't be but it is and the
same thing happened to me. I was forced to use the
boot floppy to boot and then went to the /etc
directory. That deadly question will at least save
your old lilo.conf as something like lilo.old (I
think).
Get rid of the new lilo after looking at it...there
are some differences in what you will need for the new
kernel, most importantly you will need an
initrd="initrd.img" or something. You probably didn't
need it for 2.2.20.
At any rate just get the old kernel back running with
that boot floppy and you should be able to figure
things out. You do have a boot floppy, right....? If
not you are SOL.
